Ceramides are the new hot ingredient in anti-aging skin care. We have come to realize that the outer layer (epidermis) is the best defense against oxidant free radical damage to the skin which can lead to wrinkling. Anti-wrinkle creams and collagen stimulation creams are important but as a secondary repair phenomenon. By supplying ceramides to your epidermis, the DEEP Cell Activate augments your natural defenses and provides the secondary ones as well.
Ceramide Creams for anti-aging
March 11th, 2011Bikini line ingrown hairsTIP of the day!
February 25th, 2011One of the most common problems with women who shave or wax is ingrown hairs. Particulaly in African American women. To prevent bumps clean the area with alcohol, wait 2 minutes and then shave or wax. Apply neosporin after. Be sure that your waxer uses a different stick to apply the wax for each person to prevent contamination.
Top 5 things you should know for taking care of your skin in the sun.
February 15th, 2011Ok, as we all get ready for our tropical winter getaways.. Here are the five things you need to know: 1. Broad spectrum sunscreen: needs two components to block out most of UV rays- SPF of 30 AND zinc, helioplex (neutrogena), or mexoryl (La Roche Puisse) Applied morning and again around noon.
2. Anti-oxidant lotions or creams. This is absolutly necessary because sunscreens are imperfect and, therefore, anti-oxidants are needed to clean up the damage from the sun and, very importantly, from visible light rays which sunscreens do not protect against.
3. Epidermal restoration lotion containing ceramides. The epidermis (outer skin layer) is our first line of defense against oxidative damage by the sun. Deep Skin Care combines #2 and #3.
4. Swimming dries the skin, particularly for patients with hereditary eczema (atopic dermatitis). Therefore, outer skin layer repair moisturizers (such as CeraVe) need to replenish essential epidermal components.
5. Good old rubbing alcohol (70%) is great for treating and preventing sweat rashes on the back and chest. Short term benefits: no burns and no bumps. Long term benefits: longer lasting youth!
What about Stem Cells for skin care products: right now?
February 8th, 2011Are we kidding ourselves? If you could get them to absorb, where would you get them from (safely)? What would they do; where would they go? Beats me and every other dermatologist I know. Maybe someday, but not now.
Resveratrol and your Skin
January 20th, 2011A study published in a dermatology journal in 2010 shows resveratrol in a cream stimulates collagen producing skin cells in tissue culture.Resveratrol, found in red wine,, has received a lot of attention as a potential life extender when taken orally. We have incorporated it some of our DEEP products.

One of our patients writes, “DOCTOR, DO YOU THINK THAT SKIN CARE LINES DEVELOPED BY CELEBRITIES ARE BETTER BECAUSE THE CELEBRITY KNOWS MORE SECRETS ABOUT BEAUTY THAN AVERAGE PEOPLE ?”
December 21st, 2010Endorsements by celebrities can be valid & reflect their genuine support for a product at times. Development of a skin care line by a celebrity, in my opinion, doesn’t exist (unless they were a cosmetic chemist or dermatologist in their spare time). It is strictly, ladies, about the business of adding your dollars to their fame bank. God Bless Us All. Happy Holidays from our entire DEEP staff.

Better than Botox?
December 15th, 2010WILL A CREAM OR LOTION TAKE THE PLACE OF A PROCEDURE? If you run across marketing claims from any company that claims that their skincare product can replace a facelift, do exactly what BOTOX does, or tighten skin: RUN & DON’T BUY

ETHNIC DIFFERENCES IN FACIAL AGING.
December 8th, 2010ETHNIC DIFFERENCES IN FACIAL AGING. It is no news to anyone that darker skin types- black, asian, & latin- seem to age more slowly than fair whites. In reality, the differences really occur only on the surface( wrinkles ) and are strictly related to the effects of the sun on more sensitive white skin.Other signs of aging- laxity/looseness, furrowing/expression lines, & bone/ fat atrophy- occur equally in all ethnicities as a result of genetic factors.Douglas Hamilton, M.D.
